Christian Horner – F1 Superstar – Portraits!
We had the immense privilege of shooting F1 superstar Christian Horner this January for The CEO Magazine!

It was a long but very exciting day! I picked up my assistant at 7 am, and we didn’t have time for even a break. We set up one shot at a time, slotted Christian in for the minimum amount of time, and then ‘struck camp’ and moved all the lights and equipment to the next location. The Redbull site is huge, so that involved packing everything in the car, driving to a new location, and unpacking it again.
These kinds of shoots involve a lot of planning and logistics. We made a site visit before the day to discuss what locations would work and what kind of shots were needed. The ‘set up then slot in’ method is always best when shooting CEOs and people of high status, whose time is valuable.
There is always a fine line to be drawn in persuading your client to sit with you long enough to elicit a good portrait, whilst not taking so long that they become impatient and frustrated.
It was a fabulous experience – many thanks to Christian for being a very amiable, tolerant sitter and to all the team at Redbull Racing for their excellent logistical planning!
